At Christmastime, I believe the kitchen should smell like something good is happening.
Something should be simmering. Something should be baking. There should be oranges on the counter, cloves in the cupboard, Christmas music playing, and at least one person asking when everything will be ready.
So I made Spiced Orange Marmalade.
Winifred’s Spiced Orange Marmalade is a 12 oz. soy candle with the bright, cheerful fragrance of sweet orange warmed with spicy cloves. It smells like an old-fashioned Christmas kitchen ... oranges studded with cloves, jars lined up on the counter, colored lights glowing in the next room and somebody sneaking another Christmas cookie when they think no one is looking.
I always notice.
Bright and citrusy, warm and spicy, it’s the sort of fragrance that makes the whole house feel like Christmas has officially arrived.
And unlike actual marmalade, nobody has to wash the saucepan afterward.
I consider that one of my better ideas.
